Tuohy Sports presents The 1st Celebrity Charity Golf Tournament

Benefit for the Jimmy Fund, May 26, at Granite Links in Quincy

SANDWICH, Mass. (March 4, 2005) – The 1st Celebrity Charity Golf Tournament, May 26 at Granite Links Golf Club in Quincy, is the first in a series of charity events to be promoted by Tuohy Sports & Entertainment (TSE) in 2005.

DataLink Communication Network and Nextel present the 1st Celebrity Charity Golf Tournament, benefiting The Jimmy Fund.

“We’re proud to be working with DataLink/Nextel for such a worthy cause,” TSE president Hank Tuohy said. “We’re raising money for The Jimmy Fund to help the chances of survival for young cancer patients around the world. Granite Links is one of the most pristine courses in New England and ranked among the top 10 new golf courses in the country. We’re lining up a lot of popular athletes and other celebrities. Everybody’s going to have a lot of fun.”

Lunch will be served at 12 noon, followed by a Shotgun start at 1 p.m. After 18 holes an awards dinner with prizes, an auction and raffles held to benefit The Jimmy Fund.

“We want to be more involved in the community and we’re all very excited about working our first fundraiser like this,” Brian Banks of Nextel added. “We’re proud to be raising money for a great cause like The Jimmy Fund.”

The fee to play and attend the awards dinner is $300.00, or $50.00 to attend the award dinner/auction only. Cost to sponsor a hole is $150.00.

Included are Hole-in-One prizes and a putting contests, as well as a spectacular silent auction item for two to the The Legends Golf Resort in Myrtle Beach in South Carolina (five nights accommodations in a one bedroom villa, five rounds of golf on the best courses in Myrtle Beach, and five days mid-size car rental with unlimited mileage).

Sports celebrities invited to attend the tournament and/or awards dinner include Boston Bruins Ken Hodge, Bob Sweeney, John “Pie” McKenzie, Bob Beers, Bronco Horvath, Paul Stewart, Andy Brickley; Boston Red Sox Joe Morgan, Bill Lee, Jim Corsi, Luis Tiant; New England Patriots Tom Yewcic, Tom Stephens, Len St. Jean, Max Lane, Larry Eisenhauer; Boston Celtics Jo Jo White, retired boxer “Irish” Micky Ward, and many others.

Major sponsors include Mohegan Sun, Sheraton Tara Hotel in Braintree, Merit Golf Vacations and Callaway Golf.
